If you already hold the American Express Platinum Card, this is one of those updates that feels very on-brand for the card’s luxury positioning. The annual statement credit at Taj Hotels has been increased to ₹15,000 from ₹10,000. That’s a meaningful bump, especially for cardholders who actually stay at Taj properties and can use the credit without jumping through hoops.
The annual fee remains ₹60,000 + GST, so this is still very much a top-tier premium card with a serious price tag. But Amex has kept the core premium benefits unchanged, including Centurion Lounge access and FHR benefits. That’s important because it means the Taj credit increase is an enhancement rather than a trade-off against the card’s other headline perks.
There’s also a new art-themed card design available on renewal, which is more of a cosmetic refresh than a functional change. Still, for a card that already leans heavily into luxury and status, design matters more than it would on a regular cashback card. It reinforces the idea that Platinum is as much about the experience as it is about the benefits.
From a value perspective, the Taj credit increase is the real story. Hotel credits can be tricky because their usefulness depends on whether you actually use the brand. But if Taj is already part of your travel pattern, a higher annual statement credit is a clean win. It reduces the effective cost of holding the card and makes the premium fee a little easier to stomach.
That said, this is not the kind of card you should get just because the headline benefit looks good. At ₹60,000 + GST, the Platinum Card still demands a very specific lifestyle. You need to be the kind of cardholder who can extract value from luxury hotel stays, premium travel experiences, and the broader Amex ecosystem. Otherwise, the fee will overwhelm the perks very quickly.
For existing cardholders, the update is simple: the card just got a little more rewarding if Taj stays are part of your routine. For prospective applicants, the message is more nuanced. The card is still premium, still expensive, and still best suited to a narrow audience — but the higher Taj credit does improve the value story.
Bottom line: if you already use Taj Hotels and can make good use of Centurion Lounge access and FHR benefits, the Amex Platinum’s ₹15,000 Taj credit is a welcome upgrade. If not, the ₹60,000 + GST fee still makes this a card to approach very carefully.
